Wired Glass Warning

To OGMA members,

The Canadian Glass Association recently released a bulletin cautioning against the use of wired glass in human impact applications. Click here to download the bulletin best weightloss pills. Our building codes on this matter permitting the use of wired glass as a safety-rated product are quite antiquated but still legally apply. This is no longer the case in other countries.

As many members are aware, due to a long history of injuries, most school boards have moved away from the use of wired glass in impact- and fire-rated applications. Many architects are now specifying wireless impact-rated fire-resistant glazing because it is very complementary to their designs and provides glazing contractors the opportunity to supply higher-valued products to their projects.

Whenever tendering or providing design assistance to an architect or owner, it would be prudent to advise them on the potential issues that could arise when using wired glass in their buildings and let them know that there are better and safer alternatives available to them.

Sincerely,

Angelo Cairo
President, OGMA
