OGMA Newsletter – August 2023

Golf Tournament. The OGMA Spring Golf Tournament was held on June 14, 2023, at the Glen Eagle Golf Club in Bolton, Ontario. We had an excellent turnout for the tournament and the weather cooperated (for the most part). We want to express our appreciation for all our tournament sponsors who helped us to make the event a success. The Fall Golf Tournament will be held on September 14, 2023, at Woodington Lake Golf Club in Tottenham, Ontario. Mark your calendars and watch your inbox for registration details and sponsorship opportunities coming soon.

Lifetime Achievement Award. The OGMA Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Brian Wiles at the spring golf tournament. Brian has been in the glass industry for more than 45 years, working for Indal Products, Armourguard, Richmond Hill Glass, Protemp, Walker Glass, and BVGlazing. Brian has been an active member of the OGMA and its predecessor, the Metro Toronto Glass Association, since 1990, serving as director for the past 30+ years and acting as treasurer for many of those years. Congratulations, Brian, on this well-deserved award and thank you for your outstanding contributions to the glass and metal industry, and to the association.

Spring Bursary Award Winner. Steve Ringler, President of the Ontario Glass & Metal Association, and Noel Marsella, President of the Architectural Glass & Metal Contractors Association (AGMCA), presented the joint $1,000 spring bursary award to Luke Parkin at the spring golf tournament. Luke was selected as an award recipient based on his positive attitude to learning the trade, his willingness to help tutor other apprentices with their work assignments, and having the highest grade average to date. Congratulations Luke, on being selected by your instructors as the Glazing Apprentice Honor Student for the term.

Annual Fishing Derby. After a three-year COVID-related hiatus, the OGMA once again held its Annual Fishing Derby, this year on board the “Hall’emin” fishing charter on Lake Erie on August 11, 2023. After the weigh-off and prizes awarded, the day’s catch was fried up for lunch at Don Cherry’s in Port Colbourne, Ontario.

What’s next? OGMA is planning several events this fall. Watch your inbox or visit ogma.ca to keep up to date on association happenings. If you have any ideas for seminars, educational sessions, or networking opportunities, or would like to arrange a plant tour that could be of benefit to our members, please reach out to info@omga.ca. As always, we would love to hear from you!
