OGMA Newsletter – February 2024

2024 Awards for Excellence. It is that time of year again. Nominations for the 2024 OGMA Awards for Excellence are now open. The awards recognize outstanding work in glass and metal construction in Ontario. There are two awards: one for excellence in execution and one for excellence in design. Any OGMA member in good standing and/or Ontario Architect Association architect is eligible to win an award for a project completed in Ontario. Members of the OGMA may submit as many nominations as they wish. Visit ogma.ca/award-for-excellence-in-design-and-execution/ for a full list of criteria and to download the nomination form. Projects nominated will be reviewed by a volunteer panel of judges. Nominations close on April 5, 2024, with the awards being presented at Top Glass Conference and Exhibits on April 30, 2024. Winners will also have their submissions promoted on our website and social media pages. To nominate yourself or another project participant, email Steven Peso at speso@tremco.ca. Our last award winners included Perkins+Will for their design work on the York University School of Continuing Studies and Antamex Industries ULC for execution on the New Toronto Courthouse.

Update on the Board of Directors. The OGMA Board of Directors would again like to thank Brian Wiles, Frank Fulton, and Steve Gusterson, who retired recently from the OGMA Board, for their years of volunteer service to the association. We are looking for energetic industry players to join the Board for 2024. Please contact any current board member for further information or email info@ogma.ca. For 2024, the Board of Directors consists of Steven Ringler, President; Blake Sanders, Vice President; Keith Elmer, Treasurer; Eric Diotte, Secretary; Andrew Dolphin, Past President; and Greg Parkin, Steve Peso, Robert Casinelli, and John Rania, Directors. Our administrator is Lori Brooks.

Membership campaign. The 2024 OGMA membership campaign is now underway. Please be on the lookout for your membership package, which would have arrived by mail this month. If you are interested in joining the association or are looking for more information, please email info@ogma.ca.

Golf Tournament. The OGMA Spring Golf Tournament is scheduled to be held on June 12, 2024, at the Glen Eagle Golf Club in Bolton, ON. We encourage industry members to join us at this premier 27-hole championship golf course just a few minutes northwest of Toronto. A power cart, barbeque lunch, and steak/chicken dinner are included in tournament fees. The annual OGMA Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented at the tournament. The tournament also provides several excellent sponsorship opportunities that help companies to promote themselves to the industry. Details for tournament registration will be sent out soon.

What’s next? We look forward to seeing everyone at the tenth annual Top Glass Conference and Exhibits, being held on April 30, 2024, at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. We are also planning to host our first members’ meet-and-greet this spring, which will provide you with yet another great networking opportunity. Watch your inbox and our LinkedIn page for more information to come.

As always, if you have any ideas for seminars, educational sessions, or networking opportunities, or would like to arrange a plant tour that could be of benefit to our members, please reach out to info@omga.ca. Don’t forget to watch your inbox or visit ogma.ca to keep up to date on association happenings.
